Vitae

Larry C. Burton is currently Professor and Associate Dean for Administration and Planning for the Penn State College of Engineering. He received BA and MA degrees in physics from Temple University in Philadelphia, and the PhD degree in physics from Penn State in 1970. Prior to his PhD studies, he worked in industry (Philco-Ford, Leeds and Northrup), while attending evening classes.

Since 1970, he has held faculty positions at four universities: Texas Tech (Electrical Engineering, 1970-73); University of Delaware (Institute of Energy Conversion, 1973-77); Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Electrical Engineering and Materials Engineering, joint 1977-90); and Penn State (Electrical Engineering, 1990-present). At Virginia Tech, he was tenured as an Associate Professor in 1980 and was promoted to Full Professor in 1982. He joined Penn State in 1990.

Dr. Burton's research interests are in the areas of electronic ceramics, photovoltaics, hybrid electronics and reliability. He has published widely in the open literature. He is a senior member of IEEE, an associate editor of IEEE transactions and past chairman of the IEEE-CPMT Technical Committee on Components and Sub-assemblies.
