VitaeDr. John J. Metzner is a professor of computer engineering, with appointments in both the Department of Electrical Engineering and The Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He received the B.E.E., M.E.E., and Eng.Sc.D. degrees from New York University. He has held faculty and research appointments at New York University, Polytechnic University, Wayne State University, Oakland University, and, since 1986, The Pennsylvania State University. He served a year as acting dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan; and two years as acting director of the Computer Engineering Program at Penn State. In research, Dr. Metzner has devised various ARQ protocols for reliable and efficient data communication, techniques for efficient comparison of remote replicated data files, efficient acknowledgement protocols for slotted ring networks, improved broadcast retransmission protocols, methods for improved utilization of ALOHA and spread spectrum multiaccess, and techniques for simpler and more effective error correction. |
