Vishal Monga is currently an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the main campus of Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA. He was with Xerox Research from 2005-2009, and simultaneously an adjunct faculty at the University of Rochester in 2007-2008. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering in Aug 2005 from the University of Texas, Austin. Dr. Monga’s research interests are broadly in multi-dimensional signal and image processing. He founded and established the Information Processing and Algorithms Laboratory (iPAL) at Penn State. Current research themes in his lab include computational color and imaging, multimedia mining and security, and statistical learning for document processing and robust decision problems on graphs for applications in automatic target recognition and classification.

Dr. Monga is a recognized global expert in error diffusion based image halftoning and computational color. His work at Xerox Research created both high impact patents as well as significant theoretic contributions in color transform design. He has also pioneered the theoretic as well as algorithmic development of image hashing which has applications in multimedia security and robust image identification. Dr. Monga is an active member of IEEE and has served on program committees and journal editorial boards as well as fulfilled leadership positions in the local chapter in Rochester, NY. Among his many honors, Dr. Monga received the Young Engineer of the Year Award in 2007 from the Rochester Engineering Society, the Society for Imaging Science and Technology Raymond Davis Scholarship in 2004, and the President’s Silver Medal at the Indian Institute of Technology in 2001.
