Welcome to the Grimes Group!

Thank you for visiting! I am Craig Grimes (cgrimes@engr.psu.edu), the nominal leader of the Grimes Group. Our research is largely focused on integrated sensing architectures. We are developing new physical, biological and chemical sensor platforms from transduction physics, material design and fabrication, to electronic packaging. We are developing novel biotoxin sensor networks, capable of both air and water operation. We also pursue several materials-oriented research projects, including fabrication and application of metal-oxide nanotubes and nanowires for use as sensors, and thin films of controlled nano-porosity and architecture for bio-templating.

I am a faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering, as well as a member of the Materials Science and Engineering Department. Our laboratories are located on the 2nd floor of the Materials Research Lab (MRL) on the Pennsylvania State University Campus.

Our research is exciting, rewarding, and we manage to have a fun time doing it. Please check out our Publications link to see what we've been up to over the past few years. Our work has been reported on by United Press International, December 2001; New Scientist magazine, December 11, 1999 issue; Breakthroughs and Discoveries inside Science, 2000; NSF Engineering Online News; Electronic Design, vol. 49, No. 7, pg. 39, 2001; and Photonics Spectra, April 2002, pg. 42. Our work on carbon nanotube-based sensors was featured on the cover of IEEE Sensors Journal, April, 2002.

I am the Editor-in-Chief of Sensor Letters, http://www.aspbs.com/sensorlett/, and encourage submission of high quality manuscripts for rapid publication.
