The Epsilon Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu at Pennsylvania State University was chartered in 1909, only 5 years after the initial founding of Eta Kappa Nu. Penn State Epsilon is the fifth oldest HKN chapter and has much in its history about which to be proud, both at the local and the national levels.
The Epsilon Chapter has maintained a variety of annual activities, such as offering undergraduate tutoring, holding information nights for graduate school and undergraduate courses, and assisting the Electrical Engineering department with the Engineering Open House in the spring.
Maurice L. Carr is credited as being the founder of Eta Kappa Nu. The organization was established in 1904 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Eta Kappa Nu has grown steadily since its establishment. In its first ten years, ten new chapters were formed. After its first fifty years, fifty-six chapters were in existence. In 1983, there were approximately 200 chapters, including branches of Eta Kappa Nu in five foreign countries and numerous Alumni Chapters in various cities and with various corporations.
